Let me explain you by, The Bystander Effect. Let's observe this social experiment. A group of 10 people were called in and asked to sit down A man entered and began to set up a tent. As part of the plan, he showed how he was unable to do it alone. The catch was that  out of the 10 people, 9 were actors and knew that it was an experiment. The experiment was to see how long it takes for that one person to offer help when they are in a crowd. In each of the cases, the non-actors looked like they wanted to help yet refrained to take the initiative. Then the same experiment was conducted in a room without the actors; with a single person at a time. Result? The average time taken by people in the first experiment was  8 minutes . The average time taken by people in the second experiment was just  3 minutes . In fact, one of the girls in the second experiment went ahead to help him in just 12 seconds! The bystander effect says that...

Syrian Crises

Syria: The story of the conflict Before starting I would like to pay my respects and condolences to each and every innocent life that has been lost in Syria. No matter which side wins, the ordinary people are always the losers. May they rest in peace and this conflict end as soon as possible. Well to comprehensively explain the Syrian crisis in the simplest terms in a bit convoluted because there are many intertwined angles. But I will try to explain it in the most optimal way possible through basic questions that are associated with the ongoing geopolitical conflict. Read it as if it is a narrative rather a social science lecture. WHERE IS IT HAPPENING? The  Syrian Arab Republic  or simply  ‘Syria’ - a country in the middle east which shares border with countries like Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq. WHAT IS THE LEGITIMATE STATUS QUO OF SYRIA? -Syria is a secular and multi-cultural country officially governed by the Ba’athist regime headed by the P...

The story of India’s first supercomputer PARAM 8000

“Great nations are not built on borrowed technology”. This is the statement of Vijay Bhatkar the man known as the architect of Indian IT industry and brain behind India’s first supercomputer PARAM. It was late 80s when America snubbed Rajiv Gandhi to deny the export of supercomputer Cray. Rajiv Gandhi tried his best to convince America that India won't use this supercomputer in missile technology. But America didn't export Cray to India. IBM was ready to make supercomputer in India but Ronald Regan then American President also didn't allow this. Then Rajiv Gandhi planned to set up Centre for Development of Advance Computing (C-DAC) in March 1988 on the recommendation of Scientific Advisory Council to PM. Now to make C-DAC work, Rajiv Gandhi turned to the man named Vijay Pandurang Bhatkar who has never seen supercomputer in his life. But it seemed that he had all the plan to make one. When Rajiv Gandhi met him, he asked three questions to him. “Can we do it?” Ra...

What kind of people will not succeed in life?

Well, as an answer to this question, I would say: Once there was an old blacksmith who was famous for making the best swords in the country. The soldiers came to him from different cities, even from distant borders and he made magnificent weapons for all of them. And the buyers, then boasted of their military achievements - everyone was returning from campaigns with success. One day a young guy came to him and said: Master, please, make the best sword in the world, I want to go on campaign with King. Can you make it? Sure, I can but it will take 1 year to make it - 1 year is too long - But you have to wait, otherwise, it won’t be the best sword in the world. The young guy agreed to come after a year. The blacksmith said, “Meanwhile, you must learn war skills from a reputed master”. The young man returned after a year. Blacksmith handed him his sword. During the war, this man showed high war skills and conquered all of his targets. After sometime, he ret...
